I'd have told her she needed to make other arrangements and that if she didn't make any arrangements within the next 24 hours, she would be able to pick her dog up at whatever kennel is close by. when dropping off the dog, put her name and info in the paperwork instead of yours. She'd have to pay the charges so they could release the dog to her.
I can't believe people can be so heartless as to suggest OP to either bring it to an animal shelter or simply leave it at the ex's house without caring for it further. I guess that's why there's all those series on Animal Planet about animal abuse in different states in the US...
How would you like to be left alone and in a house surrounded by your own waste? Don't leave the dog alone to shit in her house. The dog would be upset. It will probably be upset being at a kennel but at least it will get taken care of and won't be alone. Keep it for the 2 weeks or take it to the sh

Id take him to the kennels with her bank details! Must be some posts round ...
Wow some replies here make me wonder what humanity is. Anyway take care of the dog. The dog isn't at fault anyway and ask for a pay . See ? everything will be solved.
See what the laws are about ownership of animals in your state. If possible, consider taking steps to get custody of dog. Enjoy new companion who will not break up with you. More seriously, don't take it out on the dog, even if you don't like the dog. Not their fault she was a spiteful brat. To those of you saying to drop the dog off at a shelter, or sell them, or let them out onto the streets... Don't ever have animals or children. You are obviously too spiteful and cruel to take care of them.
Take it to her parents or her friends and tell them it's their problem
I'd have the dog put down. Or tie it to a tree in the front yard and call animal control.
Release the hound!!!

Just take it to one of her closest relatives and tell them they'll have to take care of it until she's back because you're leaving.
Not stealing - taking care of it for an indefinite periode of time :)
