For all of you telling OP to take the dog, please go punch yourselves in the face. Do the world a favor. It's not fair what the girlfriend did, but that IS NO REASON to steal another person's property. You are NOT justified in committing a crime (especially when it means stealing a LIVING CREATURE from its home) just because you're angry about your girlfriend breaking up with you. If you do steal the dog, then you deserve the jail time that you'll hopefully get. OP is an adult and he should act like one. If you take the dog, then you're being just as petty, spiteful, and immature as she is. Also, I don't know where you guys are getting the idea that it's unsafe to give the dog to a kennel. You do realize that the kennel will care for the dog until its owners return from vacation, right? He's not putting the dog up for adoption. He's simply moving it to a new environment for the remainder of the vacation. When the girlfriend returns from her vacation, she will be able to pick up her dog from the kennel. Grow up. OP should take the dog to a reliable kennel or continue caring for it or give it to one of the girlfriend's family members. Taking the dog is immature. Just because your girlfriend was a dick doesn't mean that it's okay for YOU to be a dick. One guy said that you're "spiteful and cruel" if you bring the dog to a shelter. As far as I'm concerned, you're spiteful and cruel if you try to steal the dog from your girlfriend. Yeah, she was a jerk, but that doesn't justify you stealing her dog. Sometimes I think everyone on this website is fourteen years old.

Depending on the kennel, they will take the dog until she gets back. They may make her pay when she picks up. Some do not, but others do. I would look around. If not, tell your ex that she has to find another person to care for her animal since it is not your responsibility and you have no obligation. Then I would fill the bathtub with cold water, and leave a lot of food out. Unfortunately, they may have to use the bathroom in her place. That is worse case scenario if no one will care for the dog. She is a low life. This is a way to get back at her without hurting the poor dog who is innocent in this.

Have them pay the kennel when they pick the dog up in two weeks.

U deserved it for dating a girl that is like that... but you can either keep the dog, or take it back to her house, give it a shitload of food and water (enough for the rest of ur ex's vacation, and just hope it tears up her house... don't waste a penny putting it up in a kennel

Please don't surrender the dog to the animal pound or just leave it to starve your partner is at fault please don't harm. Any dog or cat surrendered to a shelter can be given to a new owner or humanely euthanized within a set period of time. I would suggest locating a reputable kennel.

I think you should tell her that her choices are to: Find someone else to care for the dog by the end of 48 hours, or you will take the dog to the no kill shelter.
