You should definitely make we pay for that. Your personal property, not hers. She took it from you and broke it. Doesn't matter if you were in class.
Thats why I always told my teachers "no, it's my property, and I don't trust you not to break it, show me a warrant."
1. you shouldn't be using your phone in class 2. this is why you have accidental damage insurance 3. dont be a crybaby, if you're willing to break the rules, then you should be willing to live with the consequences, or at least have the brains not to get caught!

You probably could make her pay for it. Sure you weren't supposed to be using it in class, but that deserved confiscating, not BREAKING. (Also don't they have cases and stuff that you can get so that kind of shit doesn't happen? Otter box or something?)
