Today, my nutjob girlfriend dumped me for refusing to stop talking to my best friend, just because she's a woman. Before she left, my now-ex decided to punish me by destroying the dissertation I've spent months working on, along with both backups of it. FML

I'm sure you could find a way to sue her sorry ass. I'm sorry op but women like this need to grow the **** up or stay single and not procreate.

Destruction of private property, lawyer up and sue her ass.

The moment she told you to stop taking to her you should of end it.

I think he meant end it with his ex once she said he couldn't talk to his best friend anymore. And personally I agree. Once someone you're dating says that, it only escalates from there. Sorry OP

I thought he meant the other way around. My bad. Sorry.

Yeah I did mean to end it with the ex. Should of been more clear. Lol

She's probably too dumb to realise you can recover data and didn't try to completely wipe it. Try software like Recuva.

It would actually be really funny (and good for op) if it was in the recycling bin this whole time and she just thought that hitting "delete" made it disappear forever.

As a fellow Queenslander, that truly sucks - and yes you COULD take her to court, but it would be a civil suit ... unless the police agreed it was some form of malicious damage. No harm in calling your local cop shop and asking their opinion. Also, see if your uni will let you take a leave of absence to try and rewrite/rescue the dissertation (sorry about the HECS though! :( ). And finally, with "friends" like that, who needs enemies!? Good riddance to her.

u can undelete files, google it, or take it to a hacker

Holy, that's some serious shit right there. Hope you can retrieve it with a program.

How could she be so heartless? I wouldn't even do that to someone I hated deeply damn

you do know there is recovery software exactly for this right?

In many jurisdictions this is considered domestic violence.

In California, so!etching as simple as putting sugar in your girlfriend's gas tank is considered felony domestic violence.
