Today, my parents decided they won't pay for college because of a Fox News story that said higher education "makes you liberal." FML

Going to college doesn't make you liberal, it makes you smarter and more prepared in the world. Your parents are really ignorant

Fox are idiots, they just implied that Liberal people are highly educated. They're right for once; their right wing nazi-fest is for retards.

Thanks for advertising for us, Fox News! Basically, the more knowledgeable / open-minded you are, the less likely you are to be a reactionary? hmm...

Fox News is way too afraid of looking elitist. Jon Stewart has shown times where certain hosts (Greta comes to mind) have dumbed it down to the extreme. This is a shame because conservatism did not always mean reactionaryism, nor did it traditionally embrace ignorance. Republicans (and Tea Party members) now mostly exist as antagonists, not as leaders of their own right. What a shame.

US healthcare may be the best, which benefits the citizens....who can afford it. Those who can't afford health insurance will just have to die in a ditch :( .

So, you think all those 47 million people are going to die in a ditch soon because they don't have health care at the minute? Get real. I'm 34 and I've never actually NEEDED health care to survive. Besides, there are reasons why most of those people can't afford it. A ton of those people are freeloaders, lazy asses who won't get up off the couch and freaking TRY to get a job, drug addicts, etc.

okay so this is a stupid debate and it probably won't sway you but i just wanted to toss a li'l something your way: more uninsured people die each day from easily preventable illnesses than US soldiers die in the middle east from ANY cause. these people would be more likely to survive if they were sent to war. btw, not everyone who is uninsured is some lousy freeloader who has no intention of holding a job, many people are A.) unable to find work anywhere B.) may be relegated to a job where the health care benefits are awful or C.) are readily employed, but are unqualified for insurance based off of a pre-existing condition. besides, even if they are a freeloader, who cares? why does that mean they shouldn't be able to receive the medical care they need?

Your parents probably misinterrpretted statisics. the fact is most proffessors are (very) liberal and some do try to make you think that way through lecture and discussion, but not the larger amount of proffessors and you still need the education.

#323 my aunt and uncle are doctors in Canada. Canadians who complain about their healthcare system complain because they don't understand how ours really works. Also, the majority of my family lives in France, my parents and sisters lived there, and I have spent entire summers there and experienced their health care first hand and it is amazing. Also, I have an aunt and cousins who live in Great Britain and they are very happy with their health care. I'm sorry, but just because I graduated from college, from a top business school and have been unable to find a job - it isn't ******* right that I have to pay $300 a month for my insurance and then $100 for medicine on top of it. And that is the most minor of my grievances. My insurance providor is the same as I had before yet they call injuries I sustained from a car accident while they were covering me as a "pre-existing condition" and will not cover anything related to my back or hip. I only found this out last week and this has been the case since May. Still that is one of my more minor grievances. Our healthcare system here is FLAWED. And people who don't believe that health care should be a right and provided to everyone is a ******* idiot, not to mention completely heartless

THANK YOU #372!!! THAT is my main issue with our health care system. A few years ago, my father was laid off from an extremely well paying job through no fault of his own. During that time, we obviously lost our health insurance. My dad found a job 6 months later, however 6 months after that, my mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor. If my dad hadn't been able to find a job when he did, my mom probably would have died, or we would have lost everything trying to cure her and then possibly have lost her anyways. People that think our health care system is fine and just obviously need a severe reality check. I just understand how people can be so cruel.

#364 - our healthcare is NOT the best in the world: http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html According to the World Health Organization, it is #37 behind MANY European countries who have nationalized healthcare. No, I have not seen a Cuban hospital and that is not at all what I am trying to compare it to. I typed up my response from my iphone when really my response should have been : our healthcare system is one of the worst in the WESTERN world. And it is. Oh and actually? We are #37 and Cuba is #39. Huh...would you look at that. SO many people die in this country because they don't have health care. Of illnesses that can be easily treated. And as others have mentioned, those without healthcare aren't just freeloaders that laze about. I have a college degree - graduated in May from one of the top business schools in the country. And I can't find a job. I'm fortunate enough to have my parents' help, who pay my $300/month for health insurance. But my doctor's visit 2 days ago still cost me $40, and my medicine $95. And a few years ago, my dad was laid off from an extremely high paying job, which meant that we lost our health insurance. He was out of work for 6 months and was able to find another job. 6 months later, my mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor. If my father hadn't found a job when he did, my mother would have died, or we would have lost everything just trying to get her better and then there was a good chance we would have lost her anyways. As I said before, people who don't agree with universal health care or that health care is a right to everyone on this earth TRULY sickens me.
