Today, while I was walking home, I noticed an elderly man in a wheel chair trying to paint his garage so I went over to help. His response was verbal abuse and a slap to the face with a wet paint brush. FML

But would he have asked a young guy if he needed help? No. So he showed the man disrespect by implying that he is incapable of doing things himself. OP was merely trying to be nice so he didn't deserve it, but he still should have thought it through more.
