Today, I started my community service at the dog pound. I like animals so I thought it would be a good place to do it. As I arrived they were throwing dogs that had been euthanized into a dump truck to be taken to a landfill. That was my job for the day. FML

Today, I started my first day of work at our local humane society. I asked where the break room was, so my coworker directed me to a small room in the back of the building. The only place I get to take my lunch break is the same room where they euthanize, freeze, and cremate the animals. FML

Today, it was my first day as an animal control officer. My first dispatch was to collect a dog that had been hit by a car. I had to clean up my dead dog on my first day of a job that barely pays rent. FML

Today, at my minimum wage job, we received a half-way decomposed dog found in a lake. It was my job to tear open the bag and try to identify the breed and color. It would've been easier if the body wasn't crawling with maggots. FML

Today, I work at a doggy day care. Employees are not allowed to leave the dogs unsupervised for any reason. So while I was alone in a yard, my stomach decided that it would be the perfect time to empty itself. Because I didn’t want to lose my job, I puked in front of everyone. FML

Today, I went to my father's house to get my dog, since I had left it with him while I was on a business trip. When I got there, my dad said the dog pooped on the floor a few days ago, and so he took him to the pound. FML

Today, I was fired from my local animal shelter. I was a volunteer and am currently in school for veterinary technology. My education made the paid staff at the shelter feel threatened. FML

Today, I was on a job trial at the local pet shop and, naturally, was doing all the disgusting jobs. As I was cleaning the kittens' litter in the cat enclosure, someone thought it would be funny to lock me in there. I sat in a giant cage in the middle of the store with people laughing at me. FML

my mom did that, she was taking a bath and a lizard fell in drowned, i guess. she felt bad so she gave it cpr.

Volunteer at a no kill shelter. They still end up sending the dogs they've had for a long time to the pound, where they are then euthanised if they haven't found an owner. It's upsetting, but atleast this way you don't have to see the dogs being put down.

Unfortunately, that is how shelters operate. They take in all the animals that the rest of society throws away, takes care of and tries to find homes for as many as possible, and for the rest, there is no choice other than to euthanize. They ARE the ones doing the most to help animals, even if there is a grisly and unpleasant side to it as well. No-kill shelters are great and all, but it takes time, money and manpower to care for animals, and all the animals that can't be cared for in those places still end up going to the regular shelters and risk euthanization.

Why was this comment given thumbs down? What's with the sadists who'd rather see a dog die slowly and painfully alone on the streets than be treated humanely and have human attention/regular meals before dying easily and without pain?
