actually, if you read up on proper dog training, the OP took just about the best course of action. dog minds work different from human minds, so it's damn near useless to punish them after the fact. The dog's mind does not connect the act of ******** in the house, with shit being in the house, so punishing the dog afterwards would cause it to feel bad at the sight of shit in the house, while the act of ******** whilst in the house would remain kosher.
The poor thing probably held it as long as possible.
I work at an animal shelter with stray dogs.
