Your future, our clutter

By pwib - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States - Napa

Today, a bunch of my friends have been accepted to various colleges while I've been denied by the past 5. To cheer me up, my mom drove me to McDonald's. While we were in the drive-thru, she asked them if they had any job openings. FML

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Hey, don't worry. Maybe you'll get burned by the oil from the chips and then have a life-changing enlightenment, which will push you to get into Harvard and become a billionaire. Then again... Maybe not.

I'm going through the college application process too, it really sucks. Some of these things seem pretty random. People with higher stats get rejected when people with lower get in. But that's ok because I truly believe that you end up at the right place. And to those of you being rude, maybe op applied to really selective colleges therefore no matter how good you are there is a chance of being rejected

They also look for extra curriculars. If you have nothing to offer them but a 79 in math you're less likely to get in than the 73 average who was on the yearbook committee, the pep squad and volunteered at the soup kitchen. They want someone who will contribute to the school, not just attend their classes.

It's okay, OP. just keep trying!! FYL, though. That's pretty rude of your mom. Even if her intentions are good she should be more sensitive. Plus, there is no shame in working at a place like that. How else are you going to make money through college?

Going to college doesn't mean anything. You can do that later. Don't judge success by whether or not you have been "enriched" by formal education. Look at bill gates and Steve jobs. An innovative mind is worth more than any college degree.

My wife done that to me. 17 years later, I'm still working for them

what's wrong with McDonalds? I work there and I'm a University student. Some of my friends in the store I work at are doing PhDs in artificial intelligence and micro biology. In fact, most of us are students here. No one in McDonalds considers it a career. Unless they work their way up to second or first assistant manager (and on up to Operations consultant, field manager and the HR team). The pay isn't that bad and it's an easy job.

some of the most successful people are college drop outs or never went at all! do some research. use your time wisely. never quit. find what things you really love doing and turn that into your career. or work on cruise ships and see the world while getting paid! it's not fml, it's what will YOU do with what you have to make your life worthwhile in your own eyes and no one elses! :)

So basically your mom implied that since it looks like you're not going to school you'll need to get a job. Wow tough life... Welcome to the real world jack ass
