House hunting

Today, I was supposed to see an apartment. Thirty minutes after I was to meet the owner, she still hadn't shown. I called her. When I got no response, I was annoyed and kept calling. Finally, she answered, said, "I'm in the hospital with my father. He just died. Please stop calling me," and hung up. FML

thats not really a fml, how were you supposed to know? most people would do the same if someone didn't show when they were supposed to. Don't feel bad!

She was very rude considering you had no idea what had happened and she was still the one breaking her appointment without notification.

it's not really your fault at all.. you didn't know and while yes her father just passed, she could have texted or made a call for one minute explaining and told you she would call later for a new appointment..

That's not your fault. How were you to know?

Um she should have at least answered the first time or when things calmed down let you know what was going on. Wow.

First of all, I realize how old this FML is , but I'm going to go ahead and comment anyways: Everyone who is saying how rude she is, and how its not OP's fault.. No one said it was OP's fault. This womans father just died. I don't care if she had an appointment with OP. OP should have stopped calling after the landlord didn't answer the first 2-3 times. I mean come on. Say your husband, father, mother, child just died.. Any one who's important to you. you're distraught. Realizing you will NEVER hear that person again. Never see them smile at you again...now how much do you care about the ringing/vibrating phone In your bag? If you care at all, well then that's you. But almost everyone I know would be crying too hard to even be able to answer a phone. I'm astounded at how many of you can call the woman a bitch or blame her for this. Please, have some empathy....

Then she should have let you know. Not your fault

she should have let you know that she needed to cancel. well, on the bright side, maybe you wouldnt have wanted her as a landlord

Ok, are you saying it's her fault? Her fault her dad died? No. F*** you in the a**, it's not her fault. Excuse her for thinking her family crisis is more important than anything else. When I lost my mom, I didn't give a rat's a** about anything else. Scheduled appointments, work, eating, sleeping, nothing except grieving. I felt that way for a week straight. If the landlord didn't answer after the second try, leave a polite message and look somewhere else. That's not the only darn apartment in the world, you can look at it some other time, and I hope you apologized for being a dick. Get over yourself and I hope you sent a condolences card.
