and if your boss says no then talk to your drugs...
Its easy to see all the hardcore christians and trolls just by their stance on this FML. Sure it was responsible thing for a boss to do, but it was irresponsible of him to not have backup prepared. as for the drug portion, as long as it didnt affect the output of their work and didnt put others in danger, then thats perfectly fine. Who cares what they do in their free time? Still, its unfair to put OP and their two other co-workers through so much work and stress.
Because there are a lot of those that "use recreationally" that smoke before going to work or even going to court to deliver a deposition. They care what people do because if it can make they company look bad, have them lose customers or like pot in most areas illegal they do have to care what people do in their free time. That's why that school teacher that tweeted about smoking pot was fired.
I highly doubt OP's boss woke up one merry morning and decided 'Hey, how about I have my employees do a drug test for the hell of it?' I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that the coworkers' drug habits DID influence their performance, and significantly enough to frustrate the boss to the point where he felt he had to fire most of them. Also, atheist here - religion has NOTHING to do with this certain topic. Stop trying to blame the Bible for everything.
Your comment was clearly NOT sarcasm, you're just trying to justify the fact that someone blew a huge hole through it.
It is better to have a job, and have a shitload to do, than to be unemployed and unemployable because you were fired for doing drugs. And, yes, ask for a raise, or ask if he will be replacing the other druggie workers.
I wonder is the boss just really extreme and *any* kind of drug, including medications some people have to take, caffeine in coffee or even nicotine in those anti-cigarette patches, is a huge no-no to him... or maybe the people fired really were a bunch of junkies, I wouldn't know.
Never heard of a drug test for nicotine, caffeine or prescription drugs. Since all of those are legal, I can't imagine an employer getting away with firing people for using them - on the other hand, I'm not American, and they seem to have an overabundance of strange laws concerning hiring and firing policies.
Where I work they test you for prescription drugs as well as illegal. If they find that you're taking a prescription which isn't prescribed to you, you'll be fired.
They have tests for all of those, 77. The hospital I work at does a tobacco test before you're hired (they don't hire anyone who smokes), and we get tests for all sorts of prescription drugs in our lab all the time.
Well I don't know where you work 77 but almost every doctor I have ever met has been a smoker and working in a hospital. But on another note the typical drug test that most employers use check for illegal drugs and prescription drugs. If you take a prescription dry you have to have a note from your doctor or else you'll probably be fired. And for people saying "what they do on their own time shouldn't matter if it doesn't effect their job" no, it doesn't work like that. If you do drugs it remains in your system and it can effect your work even if you don't think it can.
Drugs like pot will show up in tests for weeks after they have any effect. And the effects will vary from person to person. I'm able to work (without any boss, luckily) thanks to opiates that would knock somebody else out, and I know a manager who was an alcoholic for years without anybody suspecting anything.
We can tell drugs don't pay Really sorry you are going to be overworked.
Aren't u glad u still have a job, clean and no drugs, and may be promotion on the card if u hang on and prove it... Though I do agree it's gonna be hell in short term with the work load.. Hang in there buddy!!!

Just say "No" to your boss.
