Just Say Yes

Today, my boss decided to have the whole staff drug tested and fire everyone who failed. Out of an original staff of 14 people, only my boss, two coworkers and I remain. I now have four times my normal workload and am seriously thinking maybe I should've said "Yes" to drugs. FML

I think now you should ask for a raise in your salary since you have more work to do

Better get a pay raise for this! He will realize how valuable and responsible you are after the initial shock wears off. Be proud of yourself.

You completely deserve this. By being a sanctimonious busybody and believing that anybody that failed your precious drug test should be fired, you put 10 people out of work. You reap what you sow.

How is this OP's fault? If anyone was being a "sanctimonious busybody," it was the boss.

Woah, you must be so high you didn't even notice how the FML says it was OP's boss who ordered the drug test and who fired all those people.

The boss was right to fire people. Pot isn't that bad, it's still illegal having it show up on a tox screen for any employer is grounds for termination in most places

Pretty sure if your boss decided to test it was an issue. If it wasn't, he's insane. firing ten people is corporate suicide.. couldn't he have at least acted like there were no implications until he hired some new people?

Bosses make bad decisions all the time, here in the USA the bad decisions of corporate America makes a good chunk of our news headlines every day. Frankly if the employees performance was bad enough to initiate drug testing, then the worst cases could have been fired based on accumulated incidents of absences, tardiness, missed deadlines etc. I only have OPs post to base my comment upon but firing such a large group of staff seems more irresponsible than gradually replacing them with well vetted new hires.

Look for another job. Even if you don't do drugs, this sounds like a shitty place to work.

Was this your boss's way of laying people off? Maybe you'll be stuck with all of that extra work forever.
