Today, a guy in a fancy car tailed me for twenty minutes, just so he could take a picture of my license plate and tell me there's a $300 fine for flicking cigarette ashes out your window. FML

@81...I have to agree. I completely understand that everyone has the right to smoke and do what they will with their own body. But when your right to smoke interferes with someone else's right to clean air, you've got a problem. Not to mention that the burden of your future medical bills for all your lung problems will ultimately rest on the shoulders of the rest of us. Just keep that in mind.

Don't get why you're being thumbed down, the cops can't give a fine for littering or anything else based on another civilian's word.

In the area I live the cops have a program where civilians can report traffic violations. They need to fill out a bunch of information though - license plate, description of car, description of driver, date, time, location, infraction, etc. I'm not exactly sure how the fining works with that, but you can get fined. Though for something like tossing a cigarette butt I'm sure it'd be a pretty easy ticket to fight.
