Today, according to daycare, my son is behind in his potty training curriculum because we are not "celebrating his natural bodily functions" enough. He turned 2 a week ago, and he peed on our bed last night because we're trying to meet this demand. FML

Tell him to celebrate his bodily functions all over his teacher

According to pediatrician Emmi Pikler 95% of all children manage to successfully use the toilet during the day by the time they turn three without forcing it onto them. The daycare needs to chill.

Don't sweat it. Two is kind of young anyway and boys train slower than girls in a lot of cases. I have 2 of both and I can tell you it rings true. I tried to start my last son when he was 2, but I could tell he wasn't ready. Tried again at 2 and a half and he did better and succeeded. If you stress a child too much it'll backfire. I promise he'll train when he's ready and only then. Tell the daycare to do their ******* job and change the diaper because you're working on it but not quite there yet. Don't sweat it, I'm sure you're doing great. It's not easy for anyone and it takes a lot of time and patience.

Hi! Masters of Early Childhood Education haver, and 15 yr career nanny here. Your daycare is completely wrong. He's not potty training because he's not ready. Period. When he's ready, it'll be a snap, and most boys aren't ready until late 2, or early 3. Keep him in diapers, let him sit on the potty and try, give praise, and don't discipline accidents. You don't have to celebrate anything, just don't make him feel pressured. Good luck with your daycare.

It's daycare, not a paediatric clinic . Kids learn at different rates, so why give in to the demands of a bunch of fruity hippy types? They gave themselves away with their use of the phrase 'celebrating his natural bodily functions'. Who 'celebrates' the process of elimination? Pray they don't celebrate their own bodily functions - your son will come home one day with a necklace made of hand painted tampons.

A good daycare would know that children learn at different rates and it doesn't mean they're "behind". You should try to find a better place.

It's scary how aggressively society forces us to fall in line at the same rate as everyone else. Good intentions, practicality with a room full of kids and all that, but seriously this is an unnatural progression.

It will happen in time, these things will work themselves out.

They just don't want to continue to change his diaper. It can take as long as 3yrs old to normally teach a child potty training. It's unrealistic to expect him to be trained by 2yrs old.
