Today, after applying for a job at a tanning salon, I was told they don't hire "naturally tan" people. I'm black. FML

I would fight it, I don't think they can do that. But then again they sound really stupid. I don't know if you'd want to work for them anyways...

I don't think it's racism as much as it is absolute stupidity.

I thought Maryland was a northern state? Not a deep south one...

You do realize that racism happens in the north too, right? I hate when people stereotype the south as being full of racists. The only difference between racism in the south vs the north is whether they did it to your face vs behind your back. Having lived in both places I've seen just as many bigots in the North as I have in the South and just as many really great people in the South.

Northern racism is more in the nature of treating minorities like children. IE, pronouncing that you're doing something to help "those people" or insisting on giving assistance, regardless of the other person's wishes. Southern racism is much more open and unabashed.

I don't care if it isn't or is racism. It's illegal, and they need to understand that. It's called the Civil Rights act of 1964. " It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer-- (1) to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin;"--Title VII, Equal Employment

Everybody just chill no need to get your virtual undies in a bunch

Try finding a job where you would actually look forward to using your employee discount.

Wow...******* wow. Discrimination at its finest. FYL, it's probably the worst place to work anyways judging by that additude anyways.

Workplace discrimination. Get the lawyers ready. Discrimination is not okay.
