I've gone to a few tanning salon sessions (to get rid of a farmer's tan) and the girls behind the counter always had the prettiest tan (not that fake orange looking ones!). I guess they were used as walking advertising to upgrade their lotions to make a sale. Also they're needed to answer questions about what to expect when getting it done. Hearing their "personal" experience is best. I can understand it from both sides. But the salon was foolish to explain the reason why. That's a law suit waiting to happen. Wonder if they don't hire gingers also?
We gingers can tan. It's just incredibly hard. I'm a natural ginger but I color my hair a lot :/ I wish I never did though!
It's not about a lawsuit so much! It's about discrimination & that's exactly what happened! Weight watchers cannot deny employment because of a persons size, they have to have another reason! If I were OP, I'd definitely call an attorney & the labor board. It may seem like a small thing but its not. The days of not hiring because of skin color, marital status, weight etc are over!!!!
#49. Yes, they can. WW staff has to have successfully lost weight using the program and the terms of their employment require that they stay within their goal weight. This means that fat people can't just walk in and expect to be employed, and it prevents an employee from becoming fat. It's not a secret policy and it is well-known to the staff, so if it were illegal, it would certainly have been taken to court by now.
i tan,so im thinking the reason they might have not hired you is because some customers might want your opinion on a lotion or something.Usually the people who work there tan themselves and have first hand knowledge on products. Those lotions are exspensive so i want to know what im buying, but i think its an awkward situation and kind of raceist.
That seems like a redunculous reason on why they wouldn't hire the person. They may not have "first-hand" experience per say (this is a plausible assumption, but it may be the complete opposite ofc), but they can be taught. Also, if you think about it, everyone naturally tans (more or less than others). It seems to me that they broke the Protected Class Law and the user should file a lawsuit. All that salon did was use different terms, so they wouldn't have to directly say "We don't hire black people."
i
i'm saying the lotion because there's diffetent kinds like bronzers and tingles. If i'm biying a tingle i want to know how hot it is or if the bronzers get you orange or golden.I do agree people can learn about them but i'd rather know what i'm getting before I buy it ,don't like it and can't return it.Yea i'd file a lawsuit though if i were op.

I agree with you #52. As stated above, I had a farmer's tan I was trying to get rid of. I needed two different sets of tanner lotions to make sure I got an overall "even tan." They're not cheap! The girl behind the counter was the perfect person to speak to about fixing my problem without over burning me. (:
lol I'm sorry i was quick commenting ,didn't read all the comments and noticed i basically said the same thing as you after.Thats another thing they have to know what skin type works well with certain lotions and advice on burning & etc.
Ive been asked if I'm just really really tanned or actually black a couple of times more than I should have. People can be so dumb sometimes.
Granmar? Really? My spellcheck didn't even like me putting the 'n' in there. Perhaps before casting stones you should look at yourself first. P.S. it's been my experience that when you (general you) correct something on FML it usually ends with you (general you) screwing up what you are saying and looking like a fool. Case in point right there.
If I wanted to get tanned at a place where I might need advice on what tanning lotion to get or how the tanning bed might feel having some one that isn't utilizing the bed I'm less Likely to take advice from. But if you are already dark and still using the bed more power to you, but I'm sure you would get some weird looks..
Should have said "no that's ok because I will not lower myself into working for dumb ass ignorant white people who don't know the difference in a spray tanned oompa-loompah and a real human being".

Smells like a lawsuit.
I would fight it, I don't think they can do that. But then again they sound really stupid. I don't know if you'd want to work for them anyways...
