Today, after applying for a job at a tanning salon, I was told they don't hire "naturally tan" people. I'm black. FML

I would fight it, I don't think they can do that. But then again they sound really stupid. I don't know if you'd want to work for them anyways...

I'm a halfrican, **The white side of me says, consult an attorney **The ghetto black side says, you should have slapped that bitch before you left!! Seriously though, I have to tan in the winter, so to say race has anything to do with experience, it's ridiculous....

Why is the black side ghetto? You do know that there are black people who don't live in the ghetto, right? As well as there are white people and asians who also live in the ghetto. When you want to fight racism, start with yourself.

I was being sarcastic, I'm in no way, shape, or form ghetto....being I'm from both black and white heritage, you learn to joke about these things. It's 2013, not 1940...there's ghetto blacks, whites, asians, all races...

If it makes you feel better, I'll rephrase that....**The ghetto white side says slap the bitch! *** The black side says consult an attorney....that better?

No, not really because it still makes the assumption that ghetto vs non-ghetto is based on some racial aspect. I'd be happy if you left the stereotypes out of it or refrained from awkwardly trying to reverse the stereotype. Neither works.

It's sad when people are so uptight about political correctness now days that they pick on anyone comfortable enough in their own skin to make jokes about their own heritages.

RedPillSucks 31

Has nothing to do with political correctness. It has to do with being annoyed with overused stereotypes.

It's ok to joke if it is your own race and you're not being disrespectful. They are taking back the negative stereotype and owning it and making it less serious.

You can never make a negative stereotype which is steeped in racism less serious because of course people are still treated less than equal due to their race. A stereotype cannot be formed without prejudice and that can then turn into discrimination which it has, so no she is not "owning" the word. Also the trouble is this is the internet so you cannot hear the tone, pitch and speed of the voice to note sarcasm and jokes. To be honest, I actually thought she was serious and felt bad for her that she would describe herself in such manner.

Nah, I agree with 175 and 136. My brother has learning difficulties and after being bullied constantly and was called a "mong" every five minutes he started calling himself that to try to make it "less serious" and "own the word" **** sake, he cried even more. It's ******* hurtful and that stereotype's history isn't as half as long as a "black ghetto" or whatever. I can excuse my brother as he was only 8 but I can't understand why people my age (16) do this like my friend calling himself a "f****t" just as it was reported on the news that a gay man was beaten almost to death, the mobile phone records then men shouting that word at him. Why ******* degrade yourself like that? Why call yourself something that stupid people believe you are? Are you lower than them? SORRY TO RANT but it's just so annoying. OP, FML I work in tanning salon it SUCKS

Yup, sounds like a lovely lawsuit... But the job prob isn't worth it so I'd just write corporate.

Do they have any idea how illegal that is? Also, do you need green hair to work there?

Tell them you're the "After" picture.

11, You only just noticed that there are strange people on FML? You must be new here.

Reminds me of Gonzalez vs. Abercrombie and Fitch. Nine potential employees filed a class action suit based on racial discrimination. They settled for 40 million.
