As a physician let me say that not all of us, in fact most of us, are thrilled when our patients come in pre-diagnosed. Makes our jobs easier. However, most times patients mis-diagnose themselves. A lot of people are assuming the doctor was wrong. Acid reflux (which can cause chest pain) and pneumonia are pretty difficult to mix up... Even a bad doctor can usually differentiate between those two! My guess is the OP has acid reflux!
He could be right, don't speak so soon.
Just don't let him talk you into a PAP test for that lung pain.
If he intended the remark to be rude, you should get another doctor. They shouldn't make you feel silly for voicing your worries. Since everyone is complaining about Doctors, I feel I should say that they're not all bad. Every one that I've had have been absolutely brilliant. It's the personality, not the profession, that defines a person.
Im happy for you then. Ive only had one doctor ever that was nice AND listened to me
Yes, pneumonia is still located at #2 on the leading causes of death. Often referred to as the silent killer because of its sometimes vague symptoms. I say get a second opinion. I went to a dr once...he said I was suffering from depression because my body ached. Yeah...I had full blown pneumonia in my left lung diagnosed by the chest X-ray I finally received from the second doctor.
As a person with a history of lung problems (6 pneumonias so far...) all I can say is to get a second opinion. I know almost instantly when I have pneumonia and often times the doctors cannot tell. Yes, they are professionals and you should listen to them BUT I suggest going to a medfast or whatever clinic you have and insisting on a chest xray. They have the machines there, it doesn't cost much, and it's a great second opinion.
I have pulmonary issues as well (lung has collapses spontaneously 3 times) I also have GERD and acid can actually shoot so bad and hurt enough in your back that it feels like a collapsing lung. trust your doctor
While reflux can infact cause a chronic cough, your doctor is an ass. 90% of the time pts have already told me whats wrong before I even touch them....change docs!!!!

Sounds like you should look for a new doctor...
Go to another doctor for a second opinion!
