Today, after taking my clothes out of the washer, I noticed at the very bottom of the washer my boyfriend's USB stick I found a couple of days ago. The USB stick contains his English essay, and his novel he has been working on for almost six months. FML

You can just dry it off in the sun... don't use it for about a week so that it dries thoroughly, then it should work just fine. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Yeah, it should still work once it dries out (flash memory=no moving parts). Should be a lesson to your boyfriend, too—clean out your own damn pockets!

They actually go by quite a few names. USB Stick, Flash Drive, Thumb Drive, USB Drive to name a few. It is you, sir, who is the idiot.

Also, "flash drive" can refer to a solid-state drive just as much as a usb drive. In fact type it in to wikipedia see what you get. IDIOT

There's also dongle, although that can apply to anything that plugs into USB ports, including wireless internet stuff, soundcard thingies and toasters.

USB is the more technical term actually...

Stick it in a bag of uncooked rice. it wil absorb the moisture. I hope it will be fine!

the stick was his backup. which probably means he doesn't have it saved anywhere else. that sucks

I once found my USB in the washer. It's still working fine. XD

dry it out it should work fine.. they're about the toughest storage medium there is.

you found it, which means he lost it, so who cares if you forgot it in your pockets and sent it for a spin? still his fault for losing it in the first place; p

Dry it out and it will probably work. it's happened to me.

"How you uh, how you comin' on with that novel you're working on? Huh? Gotta a big, uh, big stack of papers there? Gotta, gotta nice little story you're working on there? Your big novel you've been working on for six months? Huh? Gotta, gotta compelling protagonist? Yeah? Gotta obstacle for him to overcome? Huh? Gotta story brewing there? Working on, working on that for quite some time? Huh? Yeah, talking about that six months ago. Been working on that the whole time? Nice little narrative? Beginning, middle, and end? Some friends become enemies, some enemies become friends? At the end your main character is richer from the experience? Yeah? Yeah?" And then post-washing incident: "Oh I know it sucks now, but look at the bright side: you have some new material for that novel you've been writing. You know...the novel you've been workin' on? You know the the one, uh, you've been workin on for six months? You know the novel. Got somethin' new to write about now. You know? Maybe a, maybe a main character gets into a relationship and suffers a little USB related trauma? Somethin' like what... what you've just been through? Draw from real life experience? Little, little memory stick problem? You know? Work it into the story? Make the characters a little more three dimensional? Little, uh, richer experience for the reader? Make those second hundred pages really keep the reader guessing what's going to happen? Some twists and turns? A little epilogue? Everybody learns that the hero's journey isn't always a happy one? Oh, I look forward to reading it."
