That wouldn't harm it. You could drop it in a hot cup of coffee and it would still work. There's no electricity running through it when it's in water like that so it won't short circuit. I smell a fake.

USB key is for easy storage from pc to pc. Not for backup.
USB drives arent that sensitive to water... I have placed mine in the washer several times and it works just fine.... Just let it dry out and it will work trust me..

You can just dry it off in the sun... don't use it for about a week so that it dries thoroughly, then it should work just fine. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about.
Yeah, it should still work once it dries out (flash memory=no moving parts). Should be a lesson to your boyfriend, too—clean out your own damn pockets!
