It pisses me off that there's so many YDIs on this post. Respect to OP for actually going to the gym and get something done. Everybody can **** up. Advice from here is to start small. Walk if you can manage it. Take a small bowl of snacks and maybe pour a glass of soda, leaving the rest of the snacks and the bottle in the kitchen. Rock on, OP.
Now divide that by how quickly you can eat a piece of cake and you will know how overweight you are!
That was really inconsiderate, and kind of unnecessary. OP is consciously making an effort to make him/herself better, which is a lot better than most.
Might be easier to start with biking or ellipticals. Or run outdoors with scenery to enjoy.
You do not deserve all the YDI's. It can be very easy to become overweight depending on your circumstances. Our society is rigged to get us addicted to cheap, unhealthy, fattening foods and makes it more expensive to eat a healthy diet. Depending on how much you work and how physical your job is, it can also be tough to add a needed workout to your daily schedule. Of course, an individual's metabolism and stress levels can play into being overweight too. The point is that you're doing the right thing and trying your best to be healthy again. What bothers me the most is that there is such a stigma attached to being overweight that people seem to have no problem putting down an overweight person when they don't know if that person just dropped 20 pounds through a tough diet and exercise plan. No one can just look at an overweight person and know how they got that way or what they're doing about it; and it is horrific to me that no matter how hard an overweight person works to lose the weight; they seldom get to reap the rewards until their finally "thin", "buff", or however you want to phrase it. It takes a journey to make it to the finish line, and that journey deserves more recognition and respect. Be proud of your personal progress, one day at a time. It's going to take some work and time for general society to grasp the fact that going from overweight to healthy overnight doesn't happen; and they're not helping the issue by putting heavier people down. Lastly, society needs to grasp the fact that "healthy" does not equal thin. "Healthy" is not a look- it's a lifestyle, and it's something that is relative to your body as an individual. Don't beat yourself up about it, OP. There's enough people in this world to do that for you. You need to be on your side, and be proud of yourself for taking that first step- and that first fall. And getting back up again :)
#45 you said it all! A million thumbs up to you!
Thank you 50! Also, typo correct from the original comment- there's a "their" that should be a "they're". I'm past the editing point and the error is irking me lol.
? Perfectly said!
Holy reading! But yeah, I totally agree with you :)
You are not useless because 1. It may have taken you some time to realize it, but you acknowledge your weight problem and 2. You acknowledge it and have decided to do something about it. The most important thing is that you are now trying to make a difference to both your health and lifestyle. Remember workouts should be fun, so do things at your pace and don't overexert yourself. Overexertion, especially when you are still new to the whole exercising routine, can lead to complicated issues in the future.
You can do it! I know it's hard to get started, but I believe in you and your fitness journey!!!
Hey, you got this! You can start with in-house stuff too, like sit ups or squats if you're initially looking to avoid embarrassment. Also try walking on the treadmill for a long time instead of running. Still good exercise!

Soon those two minutes will turn into twenty. You are putting the effort in, which is more than a lot of people can say for themselves.
Don't worry about being overweight and going to the gym. At least people can see you are actively trying to pursue a goal. Keep your head up OP! :)
