Today, I discovered I have a cyst on my backside. I can't get it removed until Friday. I have to sit through four midterms this week. FML

No, that's an abscess (pus-filled horror show). A cyst is a sac with a lining filled with fluid or debris, depending on the type of cyst.

I didn't know cysts were painful, but I guess if you're sitting on it all day then it can't feel good

well when they are external they almost always are painful... internal ones dont usually hurt unless they rupture.. or if u need removal surgery. I had one in my boob and I didnt feel it until it ruptured.

Pilinodal? If so, ask your doctor about second intention healing. I went thru it 3 years ago. My 1st doctor tried to cut it out and stitch my back.... then tried it AGAIN 6 months later. A new doctor looked at it and finally did the procedure right. Good luck, I am still in pain.

When I excise pilonidal cysts, A) I use a CO2 laser and B) I always let it heal by secondary intention. Closing these wounds is just asking for trouble. But asking your surgeon to alter his technique just because someone on a humour website suggested it may not be your best avenue...

I had a pilonidal cyst removed a little over a year ago and it was stitched up, I healed just fine. But everyone is different. There is a great support website with tons of info on it, pilonidal.org I think. I know your pain though OP, I went through 5 years of college, 4 of them with my cyst before I could afford surgery.

I have had it too, first doctor did a small incision / drainage :/ got infected again, so we went to turkey and well the procedure was done right, still in pain though, it's not healing quite fast, but hey I pulled through, FYL OP it really sucks..

When I had a pilonidal cyst, I took antibiotics and it popped, which was disgusting, but I've had no problems since. No need for surgery for me.
