Today, I ordered some burgers at a fast food joint. When I said, "No lettuce," the cashier looked dumbfounded and asked, "What's that?" I literally had to say, "The green stuff" before she got it. I'm losing hope. FML

I picked FYL but I just started working at a fast food place today actually and I had a few dumb moments just because I was so nervous and it's at a much faster pace than my office job. But, then again, at most places there's a button that says,"No lettuce" right in front of your face...

Why did you go from an office job to a fast food job?

Yeah, I kind of work two jobs. Sometimes you have no choice. Do I like it? No. But it's going to keep me off of the streets.

I work about 5 different jobs, only 3 employers though. It can be enjoyable if you like (in my case need) to keep busy

Are you the person the OP was talking about?! ;-)

For me it's a money thing. I work on cars and sell Avon in the mean time. Quite exhausting haha.

Lol. I hope not! I think in even the most stressful moments I can identify lettuce. :P

Sounds like she is at the pinnacle of her career.

To be fair, some places have things that they dont call by their normal names. I work in fast food. We dont have a "Lettuce" button. Shred, Spring Mix, or leaf buttons sure... so if you were new and didnt know what you were looking for I would understand the confusion.

I hate to be Captain Obvious, but you get what you pay for. Service as well as food. Also... You took off one of the only healthy things on your fast food fat burger. F your body!

get off your high horse -.- like you never had an unhealthy snack

Some people are actually allergic to certain types of lettuce, or get sick by them easily? My Grandma always had to make sure that they didn't put a certain type of lettuce on there burgers. Also, how do you know it wasn't healthy? You don't know which fast food chain it was, and you don't know what they put on their burger(Some burgers have lots of healthy things on them, like peppers, pickles, tomatoes, onions, etc).

Do you understand how nutrition works? If you eat 3 chocolate bars, a cake, and 2 salads, you're not better off than if you just eat 3 chocolate bars and a cake. Nutrition doesn't magically just average out all the things you put in you. You get the combined calories and everything else in both. If you substitute a salad in for the cake, that's more healthy, but if you add a salad on top, that helps nothing.

My high horse? Lol I never said that I eat perfectly. I just feel that OP thinking that the cashier was an idiot, when OP isn't the brightest is wrong.

So why are you complaining about OP not wanting lettuce on their burger when you don't always eat healthy either?

Well she is working at a fast food restaurant... what do you expect?

So that automatically makes people dumb just because they work at a fast food restaurant?

people that are currently in highschool may be highly intelligent but most people that are older and work flipping burgers for the rest of their life can't be seen as someone who is intelligent in my eyes.

just because people work fast food doesn't mean they are stupid. actually some of them might be more intelligent than you. people do what they have to do to live. working fast food may be some people's only option. just because they weren't blessed with a college education or a well off family doesn't mean they are idiots that are below you.

#22 Is still in highschool. Their parents are still paying their bills. Come back and tell us how it is in 5-6 years kiddo.

My mother worked fast food for the better part of her life and it wasn't because she was an idiot. It was because by working fast food she always had the flexibility to drop everything and leave if there was a problem with her children. She was a mom above all else. There are also plenty of older people who are working fast food between jobs. If you have been laid off and need money now, then you need money now, and you don't get picky about the job that is readily available. They may be in the process of finding a better job. There are also plenty of people that just received their degrees that are working fast food until they find something in their field. It is absolutely ridiculous to assume that just because someone isn't a teenager working in fast food that they are an idiot. Everyone has their own reason's to do something, and since you don't know those reasons you shouldn't judge.

Good thing you asserted your preference. You might have ended up with some Shamrock Shake on your burger!

How does someone not know what lettuce is? The dumbness of some people astounds me....

KVKdragon 26

Wow. That's just pathetic. You don't even need an education to know what the F lettuce is. Just watch some episodes of spongebob squarepants! *face palm* -___-

sponge bob has taught me so much over the years....

...well, there's always the possibility she didn't hear you? Or understand your accent? Otherwise we need to make sterilization a common practice.

or was there lettuce on it in the first place. That confuses me sometimes, I will admit. "What do you mean 'no lettuce'? There is no lettuce on that!" it makes me want to put lettuce on it, then take it off.

I agree. It is weird if someone requests that something that isn't there in the first place be removed from an order. It can cause a moment of pause where you wonder if you misheard what they ordered in the first place.

Ok, yes, the girl is an idiot, but you're the one who made a point to have them take lettuce off your burger. Really? Is it that awful?

Not everyone is gonna like the same stuff as you do. Get over it.

clmast1316 4

That is true, I guess it just surprised me.
