That men and women deserve equal opportunities in life and should not be given inferior or different treatment based on their gender. Duh. Clearly her boyfriend was joking. He finds the idea of a man asking a woman to make his sandwich for him ridiculous, which makes it material for jokes and sarcasm. For example, I know plenty of black people who laugh at jokes from non-black people, under the same premise.
I disagree with that mentality. It's not that I don't see the humor in certain jokes, but I think that acting like they're not harmful makes it easier for the people who want to put certain groups down to do just that. The "Bitch, make me a sandwich" meme is most popular with people who really do see women as inferior, so not pausing to challenge the appropriateness of the joke only serves to encourage sexism. I would expect a self-described feminist to be more invested in challenging the social constructs that preserve inequality.
Maybe this boyfriend really sees women as inferior, maybe he doesn't. But considering he's actually getting laid, I like to think he doesn't. Encouraging people to stop making jokes like this or getting non-sexist people specifically to stop isn't going to change the truly sexist people who like this meme. Misogyny on that kind of immature, meme-loving level is a deep, major personality flaw and any time someone tries to bring a serious argument into it, it just fuels their fire and, once again, makes feminists look bad. I just think there are more important things to be fighting for in the feminist movement.
First of all, there are plenty of women willing to accept the status quo. Just because a guy gets laid doesn't mean he isn't sexist. Second of all, misogyny and sexism aren't personality flaws. You're not born with it; it's taught. So working towards a society that doesn't teach children that women are inferior is important. Lastly, everything is connected. The sexism that inspires these jokes is the same as the sexism that causes women to earn less than men in the same position. It's the same as the sexism that makes police officers ask women who report a rape what they were wearing. So maybe there are more important things to worry about than some joke, but that doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile to consider the relationship that joke has to those important things.
get a sausage -stick it in your "place" and tell him to eat it. or just dump him - he's useless.
Hahaha if my bf did this to me, I would make him the sandwich and blow him while he ate it for being so effing funny!!
I also find that more disrespectful than humorous. What he said is basically synonymous with "Get back in the kitchen, woman." But hey, if you're down with being treated like that, go for it.
Your boyfriend sounds awesome. All you feminist girls shut the **** up it's a joke, geez.
What makes you think I'm a girl? I don't have to be female to see that the joke is insulting. I don't decide what is or isn't funny since that's an opinion, but it certainly is tasteless and offensive humor. It's definitely sexist, and I doubt it'd even be up if it was demeaning to other marginalized groups.
He must be extra-conservative.

I hope you made him a sandwich.
Next time he tells you he's horny, send him a link to "2 girls 1 cup", then tell him to make his own ******* sandwich.
