Today, I was hit by a truck while walking to school. It was the driver's fault as I was in a crosswalk. My parents met me at the hospital where I had minor injuries. They began discussing what the insurance money would be spent on. They decided on a second honeymoon to Las Vegas. FML

Today, I was sent to the hospital after being hit by a car while on my bicycle. The police officer said it was my fault for not looking, even though the car pulled up without looking. I now have a small herniated disc in my neck and abrasions on my thigh. FML

Today, I'm recovering from a bad motorcycle crash that could have cost me my life. A truck pulled out in front of me while going 60. Luckily I only have a broken arm and a fractured sternum. I was just notified by my attorney that the guy at fault has no insurance or assets to his name. FML

Today, while I was walking to class, I was hit by a car. The driver stopped to let me cross in front of her, started moving again, hit me, and then yelled at me, saying it was my fault for walking in front of her. FML

I don't understand why some of you are making the assumption that the insurance company that is paying out is the parents... that makes no sense, it's obviously the driver of the truck whose insurance is liable and therefore the OP is the only one entitled to any settlement...

It wouldn't matter if the OP was completely uninsured, the driver of the truck is legally responsible for all damages incurred... you don't need insurance to cross the street

I'm fairly certain your parents were just kidding, trying to make light of the mood. I know my parents would have done the exact same thing, and I'm very loved. If they seriously were going to use the money for something for themselves, they would have kept it from you. They were probably just worried, then relieved, and were trying to make jokes to cover their own feelings of anxiety over the whole situations. Its what parents do. Sorry about you getting hit, but you probably knew darn well they were kidding. FYL for the accident, YDI for believing your parents when they were joking.
