Today, I was waitressing for a huge family. Their bill was $750. Excited about the tip, I was shocked to see only $0.50. As they were leaving, I threw the two whole quarters at their heads. Guess who also got fired today. FML

they probably should've left a better tip, but at the same time you can't throw quarters at a customers head and not expect to be fired.

For them to leave only 50 cents it was clearly as an insult to the waitress imo.

You def should have gotten a tip ! Some people are just cheap ! Maybe you gave them bad service ? Or the food took to long ? Either way it's still messed up ! You would've gotten a higher tip from a couple !

I'm sorry but it's this simple. If you don't tip, and apparently are not from Europe, you're an idiot and shouldn't ever go out. You're messing with someone's livelihood and obviously don't care about other people. I don't care how horrible the service was, 50 cents on a $750 meal is a giant F U to the server and they should have expected to get the F U back in the form of two quarters flying at their head. I wouldn't do it but I can certainly understand why that server did. General public, quick taking the attitude that because you're paying for something, that gives you the excuse to treat those trying to serve you like crap. Treat others the way you would like to be treated or don't be surprised you get two quarters flung at your head:)

So this makes it okay for her to just assault customers? -_-

I've worked in a restaurant, I know how this feels. I've experienced it myself, and have seen many others experience it as well. There's no excuse for people to leave such a shitty tip on such a huge bill. However, that doesn't excuse the OP's actions. The first and most important thing in the restaurant industry is the customer. Even if they're total jerk-asses, you never, ever disrespect the customer. The OP should have instead taken a moment to calm down, clear her temper, and get back to work. Instead, she attacked the customers, and for that she very much deserves to be fired, and she very much deserves the criticism she's receiving.

411. I said I wouldn't do it but throwing two quarters is hardly assault but ask me if I'm sorry that person was hit with two quarters after stiffing someone on a $750 bill and the answer is no. They got what they deserved.

For tables.over 8, you're allowed to charge gratuity (18%) so maybe that's why they tipped.you 0.50 because you already got a tip...

You should have gotten arrested for assault as well. According to the law it's intimidation and assault. You're fortunate to only get fired. If you had thrown anything at me after sucky service I would've pressed charges, which I think your poor customers should do. There were ample witnesses I'm sure. And you're an ungrateful person. In a time where ppl are struggling to survive because they can't find a job and putting hungry children to bed, you should have have been gracious. 0.50 is better than nothing, which many people earn.

Having worked in a restaurant for almost 4 years, I can honestly say that is the stupidest thing you could have done. A server should never, ever act that way towards a customer, no matter how much they may deserve it. I've had people leave shitty tips, or no tips, and even dine-and-dash and I never once lashed out at any of my customers. If you really cared about making money that shift, you would have picked yourself up, attended to your other tables, and tried to make up the difference. Considering your actions and attitude, I'd say you very much deserved to be fired.

All 14 y/o Australians American waitresses and waiters have the tip as part of their salary. So saying you don't have to tip is retarded. Also the tips are not split because chefs get paid an actual salary

Soooo.... The family will never return to the restaurant because of your inappropriate behaviour, and you were obviously giving terrible service and more concerned about your tip than your job. And you have anger management issues.

In Europe the price of restaurants and bars include the service since it's the employer (that's the restaurant who hired the waiter, not the customer) who pays the employee. Tipping happens (keep the change, letting a few coins on the table) but providing a good service is their job, it's what's expected. I earn minimum wage and while i don't bust my ass I do the job.

Aww that's so nice of your boss, giving you permanent time off so you can work on your attitude... Hopefully you find change...
