Today, my boyfriend still won't talk to me, after I caused him the "worst embarrassment" of his life in front of his friends. What did I do wrong? I joined their conversation and ended up confusing the fictional characters of Gollum and Yoda with one another. FML

Don't join in if you have literally no idea whatsoever what the conversation is about. Even if you haven't seen those movies those characters are popular enough that it's almost common sense. I'd be embarrassed too if my boyfriend started chattering to my friends about something he didn't know anything about and making himself look stupid in front of them.

If this is the worst embarrassment your annoying nerd of a BF ever has or ever will suffer, he's a very lucky guy! He should value you more than this and get his priorities straight or face a life of loving little imaginary green men who exist only in movies and books versus having a relationship with a real woman... As someone who doesn't know who Yoda or Gollum are except they are characters from lord of the rings, I understand how OP wanted to join the conversation and not just sit there while her boyfriend is chilling with his friends. However not on topics she's not familiar with.
