I'd choose my cat too. I also wouldn't date someone who wouldn't be willing to take some allergy medicine in order to be with me. When you adopt a pet, you agree to take care of it for the rest of its life. Period.

I agree with the people who are saying she made the right choice. Let's look at what would most likely happen if she got rid of the cats... OP gives away her cats for her boyfriend, who I'm assuming hasn't been in a relationship for long with her, considering he only mentioned his allergies now. Boyfriend dumps OP, on the chance that they don't work out, and OP is left with nothing. Owners can get really attached to their pets, they form a bond. OP was given a really hard choice. Give away her 2 cats which she's probably had for a long time, and who she's grown attached to or dump a hopefully nice guy. OP can't just buy more cats, it isn't the same. I, being an animal lover, would probably choose my cats and my dog over a guy, depending on the situation. My current boyfriend hates cats, but no, I wouldn't dump him over that. It's not his fault he has different preferences. But, if he gave me an ultimatum like OP's boyfriend did, then I would choose my pets. OP's boyfriend has to understand that it's not fair to make someone choose between their loving pets, or their significant other. He can try to take allergy medication, and if that doesn't help, then he can compromise with OP. Simple as that.

You people should know that when anyone gives an ultimatum like that, this is the first step to a series of contol measures used to establish dominance. It has nothing to do with love.

I would have chose the cats too if he made me make a choice! not because of my love for cats but because I hate when people are like you can have me or whatever it is!

You TOTALLY did the right thing in choosing the cats. I have had my cat for the past 10 years, and he has been the one thing that has stuck by my side through it all. Boyfriends came and went, and he's still there at the foot of the bed or next to me every night. (Not that he has much of a choice, but he could go sleep with my brother if he felt the need.) If he makes you get rid of them, what will you do when he leaves you? You'd be stuck alone, and who knows how long it could be before that changes? Cats FTW >^.^
