I'm sorry your family wasn't supportive in the least, but there are much better people than him to look up to. You really should do some research, I know I said it a bunch of times, but actions speak louder than words. It's great that you're not the type to just jump on people, but sometimes there are some people who have just done enough to deserve to be jumped on. Maybe one day, he will grow up, but that's still in the distant future, you know? If he ever does grow up and starts to try to amend his mistakes, I will gladly change my opinion of him. Again, I am very sorry you didn't get the support you needed from your family, I couldn't imagine anything more awful than having nobody to turn to while feeling so ill and facing death.
