Today, my step-mother threw a surprise party on my acceptance to college. People kept telling me how delightfully shocked and happy they are for me. "UPenn" was written everywhere, when I really got into Penn State. Everyone thinks I'm going to an Ivy League. FML

At least you weren't the kid who got into UPenn and then had everyone hold him a Penn State party.

I go to Penn State, Its much better than U of Penn Penn State> U of Penn> State Pen

Penn State is a great school! I haven't heard anything but amazing things about the school before I saw this FML. Congratulations on getting in! Besides, I've met some UPenn students who have regretted paying so much in tuition.

officerpat, with your logic, why not go to community college and save even more money and not go to Penn State? Saying that the ivy league is a scam is total bullshit. Our tuition doesn't even cost the whole part of the amount we're paying to go to these great schools. There's a reason why the ivy league is the ivy league. It's the best of the best- the best professors, the best students, and the best resources. Our libraries have the most books, our discussions are intectually vibrant, and our classes are tough yet fulfilling. Best yet, we're need-blind for financial aid. If your parents are poor, then you can even go to these ivy league schools for free. For example, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, and Penn give aid instead of loans; the entire family's needs are met! One example, from princeton's website: Currently, the average financial aid grant covers 96 percent of Princeton’s tuition. If you're smart, and you're capable of getting into these great schools, then financial matters shouldn't be a big concern. I don't know why an "officerpat" is so caught up on financial aid and how it's a scam.

1st of all CONGRATS!!! PSU is amazing I am a freshman here now and I absolutely LOVE it!! There is sooo much to do here other than football games (not that they aren't awesome =] because they are this years Michigan State game is something I will always remember BIG TEN CHAMPS!!!!!) but there is a lot of other things to do, like THON, no matter what you are interested in I would recommend getting involved with THON. #55 - sorry PSU is good at football, but thats not how i plan on advertising my education, but hell if talking about the football team helps me get a job then i'll use it. Penn State alumni are EVERYWHERE, even big cities like NYC and LA, so think twice before calling us yokels next time. Oh and football does help get student's jobs, i mean look at Aaron Maybin or Poz who is making more money than you playing for the Bills. #60 - The Big Ten is NOT shit. so let's keep it recent, you know where Ohio State almost beat Texas and PSU played USC in the Rose Bowl. Let's not live in the past now. kthanks =]

Umm, #27, do you live in Canada? Because post-secondary education is certainly not "free" here. It's significantly subsidized and therefore much cheaper and more accessible, but it is still an investment that leaves many people in debt for years after they finish. And to all the people on this thread asserting their superiority for being "Ivy Leaguers": I'm really glad I live in Canada where we don't have an "Ivy League" and a university education is a university education; thereby avoiding the creation of pompous a**holes like you.

Both of them are great schools. I was accepted at both, but decided on PSU simply because my parents said they would pay for my med school if I did undergrad at PSU. After 2 years in med school, I know I made the right choice. I've partied with Penn kids in University City, and PSU kids in University Park, and you can find plenty of douchebags in either place. I know lots of Penn kids at great grad schools/jobs, and my roommates from PSU are in a top 10 law school, 2 in top 25 med schools, and the other 2 are engineers making >80 large and getting their MBAs (1 from Wharton actually). So have a great time at PSU, and know that you can do whatever you want; PSU being a party school won't hold you back.

I'm with #74, at least your stepmom is proud of you and is celebrating your success. I've been a B average student all my life and all I heard from my parents during my senior year of HS is how no college would accept me, and all their plans revolved around me not getting into college. Then when I was accepted at University of Illinois, my mother said "they'll accept anyone these days". FML

Hahaha... this thread is hilarious. PSU is a good party school, might be going there if I can't afford American. But yeah, definitely a FYL. Sorry your step mom got them mixed up broski!

Penn State is a good school i agree with everyone who says this is a stupid fml...if you were actually going to some community college well then ya that would be more understandable but ya again this is stupid
