Customers from hell

By fucking fuck off - 01/01/2016 14:28 - United States

Today, a customer gave me hell because a high-spec game he bought wouldn't run on his ancient Windows XP PC. I ended up having to profusely apologize and refund him. Whoever coined the phrase "the customer is always right" should probably be shot, run over by a bus, then shot a few more times. FML

I once had to give a customer a refund on an item I apparently "didn't put in the bag" when working in retail. I saw her take it out of the shopping bag on her way out the door.

According to Netflix' “Selfridges“ it was Harry Selfridge who first said that the customer is always right. And he's dead already (not killed in traffic though).

Wow. I know in Australia it's almost impossible to return a game or movie due to piracy reasons. It's part of the consumer law that you can't refund it if it has been opened at all, you can replace a faulty copy however. It sucks that you had to go through that, I worked as a retail manager for a few years and people always think that they are entitled to the world. But I and the people working returns knew the legislation very well and I'd always back them up if they'd given the customer the correct information.

The customer, in Australia, can receive an exchange, store credit or refund in cases of faulty goods. It is their choice of which they accept.

Actually in the case of dvd's and games which can be pirated you aren't entitled to a refund, it's your responsibility to make sure your equipment can run it. I once had a teenager try to return almost a dozen dvd's stating that they would all skip at different points. I tried them all in our store player and no problems so I told him that he would need to write down where each one skipped and bring them back in so that we could see it on our player. We never saw him back.

I've seen some real dumb ass customers when I worked retail catering to Arab women. They are usually fine but I've seen some real dickheads. These ladies will wear the garment for the occasion they want it for and then come back with some crap ass excuse for a refund. Being expats, it's difficult to stand up to them especially when their with the husbands.

I had a lady call me a ******* nerd and walk out. I work at a tech store. Being a ******* nerd is my job you absolute ******* walnut.

Those are the kinds of people you secretly wish get hit by a bus on their way out of the store.

this is why I only have friends that have common sense

Exactly why I refused to work with customers during my time I'm retail. In the back with the product was my home.

"today, a customer .... " automatic FYL. whoever has to deal with "customers" on a daily basis had my full sympathy. Then you added the tech support part. DOUBLE FYL. Anyone in support will understand. Hang in there, bro!

I've been there :/ A customer was once giving me Hell because a game wouldn't work on any of her five computers - each one of them bloody ancient. Of course, I made the silly mistake of asking if she had checked the PC Specification Requirements. She likened that to me trying to sell her an Xbox 360 game for her Wii! What the deluded ****!?

"The customer is always right" is the biggest load of bull shit ever.. I could probably go on for days. FYL, OP. You have my sympathies.

I would be able to accept giving the customer a refund because they wouldn't be able to play it anyway (just like taking back a sweater that doesn't fit). I do disagree with having to refuse for that is absolutely unneccessary as it's the customer's fault. 'The customer is always right' luckily isn't a thing where I work (Belgium). Because they likely aren't.

I have a feeling they received the item along with the refund. Here in the U.S. people ask for bullshit refunds for employee "mistakes" and still feel entitled enough to receive the product. She seems to have used this to her advantage by knowing she'd get a refund and keep the game by yelling at OP and maybe a manger for the "mistake." Sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to prevent the crazies from screaming bloody murder.

The problem is that it isn't the stores fault it won't work on their system and quite of the you'll find people lie and either return the games once they have played them or pirate them and then return them. With rights come responsibilities and checking easily obtained system requirements is one of them.

Sorry to hear that, OP. I recently BOUGHT a game that wouldn't run on my hardware, which was really annoying since the vendor - who had my hardware specs, as I sent system telemetry to them - kept saying I should buy it, and I didn't check the video card requirements enough. I should (and do) blame myself - sounds like your customer didn't know who to blame, and took it out on you. :(
