Today, my dad called me a "deadbeat loser" after I came back from my first day of voluntary rehab for my meth problem. He's never had a job in his life and sits on the sofa all day, smoking weed and playing video games, all on my mom's salary. FML

Good for you for getting clean. Why care what he says if he's such a loser?

#1 did you miss the part where he just got out of voluntary rehab?

The important thing is that you realized you needed help and you took initiative. Ignore your dad and anyone else who's putting you down and focus on getting the help you need.

She should divorce him. You're an idiot to get addicted to meth though.

There are plenty of intelligent people with drug addictions. No one wakes up one morning and says "I think I'd like to get addicted to meth today!" It only takes one lapse in judgement, one stupid mistake, and then it spirals downward from there. Addiction is a disease, not a choice. The only choice they have after becoming addicted is to continue as they are until they die from it, or seek help. The right choice is obvious to someone outside of the situation, but it's way easier said than done. I applaud OP for recognizing the problem and taking charge of his/her life.

Congratulations on taking the big step of getting help! Don't listen to what your dad says- you're actively taking charge and changing your life for the better, so who cares what anyone else thinks?

you're not a loser. the fact that you have enough will power to give up meth means you are very determined. keep it up!

I don't see how this isn't your fault you are the one addicted to meth

Wanting to change is the first step to rejoining society, so good on you OP. You're already the better man between you and your dad.

Actually, I just re-read it. Unless voluntary rehab works different from what I know, doesn't coming back after one day mean you failed in kicking the habit?

No. Rehab doesn't necessarily mean he's in a facility 24/7. He could be going to therapy sessions.
