Today, I switched cell phone service providers, hoping to upgrade. After working out the details and picking a phone in the store, I got home to find my brand new cell can't get a signal in my house. I already signed the two year contract. FML

There's a 30 day trial period. You deserved this for not reading your contract! Return the phone and switch providers

call your service provider and ask them how to update your phone so you can hit more towers and get a stronger signal.

Should have gotten the iPhone! Jk don't most phones allow wifi connection? It should be able to work at least then. Or just return it ASAP!

Can't use wifi to make calls and text really. Some can - like iMessage - but generally, you need service from the provider

Actually there are apps that let you place calls using wifi. Also FaceTime only works with wifi

Simple, get a land line. Mobile phones are for when you're mobile. And another thing, with hella month to month options why would you sign a contract? That's an old stupid mistake.

Land lines are old stupid mistakes. U stuck in the 90's I something? I couldn't tell u the last time I used a land line,,,, in the 90's I think....

same for me..i get no signal from my room

You don't just upgrade your humble abode.

Wait.... You don't? Well then..... Is there any way to downgrade my humble abode?

Of course, you do. I went with the iPhone and the arrogant hovel;)

I have tried 3 different providers where I live and none have worked. Sometimes I do feel like upgrading my house, or at least the location lol

OP: I don't have signal from my house Service provider: And then?

You usually have up to 30 days to back out for stuff like that. We've done it several times.

You should have two weeks to back out of a contract

I think the federal law is 72 hours, but you may be correct. It might be different with cell phone contracts.

Get a cell service extender. I'm not sure if that's their official name but that's what they are, kinda a super mini cell tower in your house. My Aunt has a verizon one and my cousin has an ATT one because otherwise there's no signal at their houses. problem solved.

You generally gave a grace period if a few days to break the contract. I hope it's not too late.

You know, if you'd just threatened your old network provider with switching, they'd probably have come up with a load of deals and upgrades just to keep your custom. Then you wouldn't have had to actually switch, still probably got the kind of deal you wanted, and would still have signal. That's what happened to one of my friends anyway, when she told her provider she wanted to end her contract and switch. They just offered her everything she'd found in another company's deal, at a better price so they wouldn't lose her custom.
