If you rear ended someone, you were following too close. Or were dicking with your cell phone, or otherwise distracted. Either way YDI
#68 http://lmgtfy.com/?q=60+miles+per+hour+*+2+seconds+in+feet Two seconds, at 60 mph, is 176 feet. At an average car length of around 17 feet, that is about ten car lengths. You are really recommending that they follow thirty car lengths behind?
As others have said, YDI. What if there had been something on the road she saw and you didn't, would it still be her fault for slamming on the brakes to avoid it? No. Plus, if you didn't have time to react to slow down, you were clearly going too fast too close to her.
While she's an idiot for slamming her brakes, you were clearly too close to her, because you should have been farther behind her or travelling at a slower speed. That's /why/ you have to pay both tickets.
YDI because you were, indeed, tailgating. That's what tailgating is.
That's because you were tailgating.
Nearly the same thing happened to me recently! Only I just got a ticket for following too closely and no wreck happened. The car in front of me was speeding in front of me and slammed on their brakes, so doing 70 on the interstate, I caught up rather quickly before I was able to react and slow down. I tried to explain this to the cop but he yelled at me. I will be fitting this ticket, that's for sure.
Good god do you deserve that. Maybe if you hadn't been tailgaiting, you wouldn't have hit her. Of course, you might not have been aware that you were, and if so, try to keep in mind the 2 second rule: 2 seconds must pass between the car in front of you passing an object and you passing the same object in order for you to be driving at a safe distance. This prevents things exactly like that from happening. You technically are at fault for the accident, and its only fair that you have to pay for the damage.
it's your fault... you're supposed to be far enough away to not rearend someone... a car for every 10 miles... YDI for not being informed of driving rules

Thats the technical definition of tailgating. If you're so close to the other car that in a situation in which the car in front of you suddenly breaks, and you rear end the car in front of you, that would be tailgating. Really, what do you think tailgating is if its not exactly the situation you're in now?
I cant stand people who slam on their brakes whenever they see a cop. Especially when the dudes on the other side of the highway
