Today, I was on a date with a great guy, and we were really hitting it off. While we were walking in the park, a woman who smelled like the devil's toenails and looked as if she hadn't bathed in a year passed us. I whispered to my date, "Look at that disgusting woman." It was his mother. FML

Yeah, you shouldn't have said that in the first place anyways. Even if it wasn't his mother. Remember that hobo story?

I'm wondering why they didn't greet each other

Thats not the wisest thing to say on a first date.. Oh and have you smelled the devil's toenail?

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all! ;)

This whole story is confusing. He should have addressed her in public unless she was spying on their date and if he doesn't smell horrible why would his mother smell wretched? If they live in the same house

1. Be careful on first dates. You don't know who the other one might know. 2. I honestly can't believe how everyone on here is all like "uuuh, don't be judgemental. don't talk bad. You're probably a horrible person" I agree you shouldn't judge others but seriously?? Everyone does it once in a while and if that woman really did look and smell as bad as described by op then I can see why op would say she thinks she's disgusting without thinking twice. It doesn't mean she's a bully or that she's judgemental towards others. It's just that she wasn't very happy about an incredibly smelly person passing her. I bet at least half of you would've done the same. If everyone was a saint we wouldn't live in a world like this -.- Sorry for the rant.

Are those really the only options: saint or judgemental bitch? There's no middle ground at all, then? I've encountered disheveled, unpleasant-scented people before; I felt pity or sadness for them (depending on what I surmised their circumstances to be). We all judge people. OP went a step further and made a deregatory remark about this woman without provocation. It was rude and says much about OP's character and maturity level.

Never judge a book by its cover, ever. I personally don't judge people :)

And I guess that's where the date ended?

Putting down other people on an early date is just about one of the easiest and yet most universally unbeneficial mistakes a person can make. Too easy to go wrong, too difficult to go right. If a guy made a comment of that nature while I was still getting to know him well, it would probably be a permanent turn-off. That's why I say it - you could be a great person, but sometimes these negative comments can kill an image. Resist, resist!

I think OPs boyfriend doesn't talk to his mother much so I do t think it's a big deal pointing out her disgustingness.

You shouldn't have said that. It's really rude to say bad things to people you don't know and to people you do know.
