If you are being assaulted, don't scream "rape", because that will scare people and they won't be as likely to help. Instead, scream "help, I'm on fire!" and it creates such a different reaction in people. It is the best way to get help.

There's a nifty invention called the rape whistle. You should become familiar with it. Or invest in steel toe shoes, even if they aren't fashionable to some.

Your mom is right and wrong. Some rapists will give up if you scream and fight back while others will love it. It's always recommended to fight back just for the chance at getting away.

In a way, your mom is right. Rape is about violence, not sex. Most rapists get off by a victim who's struggling because it makes him feel in control. However, what I'd do is try to fight back and if that seems to get him going, just give in because then his feelings of successful domination are taken away. Of course, they might not be, in which case you're screwed (pardon the pun). But ALWAYS report a rape - so many victims don't, but they should.
