tell your dad to get off of ambien and try to find another medication ambien is what caused my grandmother to commit suicide. please tell him.
I feel your pain!!!
Stinks but he actually has a point - if you become dependent on meds to make you sleep it messes with your health and the meds lose their effectiveness over time. Your dad might know this and doesn't want you to do the same.
Spray the inside of your pillow case with something lavender scented & (it may taste funny, especially if you don't like tea to beging with) have a small cup of lavender & chamomile tea (most grocery stores will sell them pre-made) before bed. It's a very calming scent & the tea is very soothing as well. It will help you relax which will make it easier to fall asleep.
Benadryl. The drug in it is Diphenhydramine HCl, which is often marketed as an over-the-counter sleep aid, but Benadryl is cheaper. It's obviously not habit-forming, but you might build a little bit of a dependency on it if you take it too many nights in succession. I'm a somnophobe (yes, I literally have an irrational fear of falling asleep) and I take a light dose of Benadryl with a small Melatonin supplement to take the edge off before I have to sleep. Otherwise I'll stay up for days.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy might help. It usually has shorter treatment span than other phobia therapies, so it's often covered by insurance.
i sure hope your dad isnt a crazy addict.
OMG! Adam Young (Owl City) and Alex Pardeeare insomniacs!!

It does suck, but your dad is right. I'm an insomniac and my doctor prescribed me Lunesta... it's great... I can sleep and whatnot; however, if I don't take it, I CAN'T sleep. Sleeping pill dependance is a real problem. Try exercising to wear yourself our or some other non-sleeping pill options or talk to your doctor... not really a true FML but I know the feeling very well. :/
Ok, those things may help normal people with sleepless nights, but, as an insomniac, I can tell you that those things don't help. We have a real problem that can't simply be reversed by changing our nightly routine.
