Are you under the age of driving or what? Because if you're sixteen or older, drive to the damn doctor yourself.
ambien makes u trip hard
I'm an insomniac. Get over-the-counter ibuprofin PM. It works really well for me (for reference, things like NyQuil and Benadryl do NOT put me to sleep) and hasn't gotten me addicted. Plus, it's over-the-counter, which means no prescription and you can buy it yourself.
That sucks OP, I have really terrible insomnia as well. And not "lawl I don't sleep cuz I'm on teh internets" insomnia, I mean lying there staring at the walls for hours and hours and having fits of frustration because I just can't make myself sleep. If it's really affecting your life you should go to the doctor and get your own prescription. (Oh wait, prescriptions in the US are ridiculously expensive. Well... bill it to your dad's health insurance? If he has it? That'd show him...)
Why not go see a doctor? He or she might actually prescribe what you need. Taking other people's medication is dangerous, because there are differences between people that are less ovbious than gender, but known to doctors. (No, I didn't read all the other comments just to feel entitled to make this one.)

It does suck, but your dad is right. I'm an insomniac and my doctor prescribed me Lunesta... it's great... I can sleep and whatnot; however, if I don't take it, I CAN'T sleep. Sleeping pill dependance is a real problem. Try exercising to wear yourself our or some other non-sleeping pill options or talk to your doctor... not really a true FML but I know the feeling very well. :/
Ok, those things may help normal people with sleepless nights, but, as an insomniac, I can tell you that those things don't help. We have a real problem that can't simply be reversed by changing our nightly routine.
