Ok, people. Listen to #142 He couldn't taste the difference because in fast foods, the drinks are cut down with water and ice. In most places, they give you your own drink, it's very uncommun that you fill your drink yourself. The USA are not the center of the world, people. I presume the OP is TYPE 1 diabetic, and not type 2 (the one you "just have a nice diet and take a pill or two"). Type 1 diabetes is waayyyy more serious, and they are ALL treated with insulin (either shots at every meal or a pump, and they do not have fancy pills). Working it out in a gym is the stupidest thing i've ever seen said about treating diabetes. What the Hell. That treats cholesterol and improves your cadiac problems, so it could treat some symptoms of being diabetic. Let me remind you that THERE IS NO CURE FOR DIABETES AND YOU CAN NEVER EVER BE HEALTHY AGAIN ! It can never be improved. Besides, although most diabetics have ways to check their level of glycemia, but they do not do it every 10 minutes. A very large number of them star feeling that something is wrong when their glycemia is around 50 or 200 (so you know, normal glycemia is between 80 and 120), and by the time they reach those numbers, the hypo/hyper already did it's deed on the body. However, yes eating in a fast food (or in any restaurant) can be dangerous because you never know what's in the food. But if diabetic would stickto the doctor's strict diet, they would die of boredom or of panic. So they have to escape once in a while and "be normal" for once. It's understandable. Besides, because of the growing number of diabetics, food chains are thinking of them. Hello, why do you think Pepsi Max and CocaCola 0 were invented ? To be more manly than diet Coke ? Hello, chocolat without sugars ? gums without sugar ? Do you actually think they were invented for the weight obsessed yoga girls ?
in all the fast food resteraunts i've ever been to, the plastic lids of the bottles have little buttons on the top which are pushed inwards if the drink is diabetic. that's how diabetic people can tell before they drink it. and people in fast food resteraunts make mistakes all the time. i know that some people think you shouldn't HAVE to state that you're diabetic in order to get a diet drink, but there's no harm in stating it just to be on the safe side.
R u effing kidding me?! When have those little buttons been used? Not often in my opinion. However, when I have seen them used it is when there are multiple drinks being order. Perhaps the OP went there in a hurry by himself. Even if they did push the little tab in, it's not like they have a "diabetic" tab. It is something like "cola" "sprite" "root beer" "diet" etc. Lastly, even if they did "push" the diet tab in on the lid, it OBVIOUSLY does not mean that a diet beverage is in the cup.
No he can probaly sue!! As in a South Bay community in The San Francisco area a male subject wasn't able too follow order when Officers demanded he surrender! Well this athletic"gentleman" happened to be in a diabetic shock... His family sued and WON!!!! Crazy but true! Check out SFGATE.com if you want too contest me...
If your eyes were open, you'd see the OP is FRENCH, in FRANCE ;)
sorry, but that's total horseshit. If you're diabetic, you can taste the difference between sugar drinks and diet drinks! Hell, I'm not diabetic, and I can immediately taste the difference in a soft drink at a fast food restaurant. I don't care who you think you are, or how much you think you know, unless your sense of smell and taste has been degenerated, you can taste the difference. Not only that but the guy KNEW that it was a sugar drink. How? you may ask? You don't drink an entire sugary soft drink and then afterwards wonder why the hell your blood sugar has spiked so suddenly... He knew it wasn't diet, and therefore either could have gone back and asked for a refill of the diet, or went and bought himself a diet drink on the way home. Either way, the man had choices and he didn't take the right ones.
It is so clear reading half of these comments most people have no clue about diabetes. Go read about it first before you leave ignorant comments like "you deserve to be sick".

what are you talking about. Your an idiot. 100 units = 1cc? cc is the unit of measurement here. 100units? 100 units of what?
i know people who work in those places, most the time it's not even proper diet [insert soda here] that they pump out, they just adjust the ratio of syrup to soda water... anyways if you're diabetic it really isn't a good idea to go any fastfood chain.. added sugar is kind of their moto for everything.. as well as added fat and added salt..
YDI for thinking that what you get in a fast food joint constitutes a meal
