Yikes that's crazy but if she lives with u,u would probably noticed if she changed to a guy. Totally a mix up

It takes a long time to get a sex change, they give you testosterone shots and voice therapy for a long time before the operation, that way they know the client actually wants to do it. It would be hard to hide that from the parents. The surgery itself would be nearly impossible to hide from the parents if The kid lives at home. I think this is a mix up OP, either that or ur a troll

No gender reassignment surgery was implied. The FML was about the state recognizing the girl as being now a boy. No surgery required. This could have happened several ways, from a government/documentation screwup, a friend playing a really bad prank, and absent parent being clueless of what's going on with their child, ..., etc.
