Today, I was waitressing for a huge family. Their bill was $750. Excited about the tip, I was shocked to see only $0.50. As they were leaving, I threw the two whole quarters at their heads. Guess who also got fired today. FML

they probably should've left a better tip, but at the same time you can't throw quarters at a customers head and not expect to be fired.

For them to leave only 50 cents it was clearly as an insult to the waitress imo.

I feel for ya most people are cheap and ignorant! Anybody who defends them are also asses them selves

considering the fact that she was a bitchy enough to throw quarters at their heads tells me she probably gave horrible customer service

Atta girl. A well deserved firing. I've thrown small change back at people loads of times.

That's why working in the food industry sucks. Next job avoid food industry jobs entirely. The only people really getting paid doing that work are the managers, bartenders and if a high end restaurant maybe the chef.

Customers shouldn't have to pay server wages. But they should have tipped you...

I like how OP's name is 'misunderstood waitress.' Because getting fired for assaulting customers is clearly a misunderstanding on the boss's part. Jeez, if you are the kind of person to throw change at someone for not tipping then I seriously doubt you were giving good enough service to deserve a tip in the first place. Maybe you should've taken the 50 cent tip as a hint instead of a personal insult.

Don't get me wrong, I believe they should have given a real tip, but you need to realize that while societal mores insist that tipping is part of the meal, the reality is it is not required. Your boss was right to fire you, just as you were right to be upset. You crossed the line when you acted on your anger though.

I worked at a coffee shop for 2 years running my butt off all day, and only 5% of customers tip. I worked at a movie store for almost 5 years and NO ONE tips. Waitresses work hard, but so do other minimum wage workers. What gives waiting staff the "right" to a tip every time?

Waitstaff have to keep an eye on you throughout your entire meal, while at the same time not being obtrusive. Coffee shop/Movie store workers stand at a counter and ring you up and operate a machine to give you your coffee, and then promptly forget about you. That's the difference. The tip isn't for the minimum wage, it's for the extra service that waitstaff provide. I never tip at coffee shops. To me, they're little more than fast food. You wouldn't tip at McDonald's would you?

Waitresses aren't minimum wage workers. They're paid a lot less than that.

Maybe your waiting skills, like your attitude, are crappy.
