Today, I was waitressing for a huge family. Their bill was $750. Excited about the tip, I was shocked to see only $0.50. As they were leaving, I threw the two whole quarters at their heads. Guess who also got fired today. FML

they probably should've left a better tip, but at the same time you can't throw quarters at a customers head and not expect to be fired.

For them to leave only 50 cents it was clearly as an insult to the waitress imo.

Most people are ignorant about many things in the service industry, for instance; servers in general have to tip out to the bussers and probably the bartender(s) on that bill at a certain percentage, usually 3% of the total bill. So in this case, end up paying out of pocket to work to service table.

Something similar happened to my aunt! She's a a waitress had a tAble full of teens, they bugged her all night and made her their personal slave. What did they give her for a tip? Some pennies, nickels and dimes. She ran into the parking lot, opened the guys hand and said "you forgot your change". She didn't get fired cause she didn't do anything wrong, but its crazy how ignorant people are now a days with money

Whether tips make the most of your pay or not, it is NOT okay to throw quarters at the customer. That's an incredibly childish thing to do and you deserve to be fired if you're going to act in such a way. Good luck on your job hunt with that kind of behaviour.

I did the math and if they gave a 15% tip, they would have been giving you $112.50. Hey they have you the .50? Oh wait you threw it at them... -.-

it's obvious by the fact that you actually threw coins at your patrons, that you have little customer service skills and perhaps this is why you didn't get a good tip.

i would also have thrown quarters at them, but it wasnt more than 8 people for 750$???

I have no problem with leaving a nice tip for a good and friendly waiter and no tip at all for a waiter that doesn't bother saying hello or thank you. If you think it is normal to throw coins at the head of your patrons, I find it difficult to believe that you were friendly while waiting on them. Even if a customer is a stingy douche, you have absolutely no right to assault them. YDI. Now grow up and learn from your mistake.

Well, maybe they didn't tip you because you did a shitty job. Just going off the fact that you THREW QUARTERS AT THEIR HEADS. You don't deserve to work in food service, you seem like you have a horrid attitude. You deserved getting fired though.

Tips are a privilege, not a right. As a GM at a corporate restaurant, I'd fire you too for assaulting a big spending family that probably won't come back.

I would like all the ignorant people who think tipping is optional for good service to know that "below minimum wage" for my state means $2.13/hour which also means every 2 weeks when payday comes, my checks are $0 because of taxes so no tips aren't a big part of my salary, they are my only source of income. Is the system screwed up, possibly but if you don't tip, especially on a big party like that where it was maybe her only table the whole night, she probably did all that work for free.

Honestly, if you're earning $0, then why not just quit? There's no point in working if you aren't earning anything from it. Receiving handouts is better than working full-time and getting nothing in return. Or go to the DoL. Because it's illegal to receive below minimum wage.

I understand that being a waiter in the US often earns you peanuts. Even more reasons to be friendly and professional (which is part of the job description anyway) to ensure you get decent tips. Of course, you can be the best waiter in the world and get cheap morons. That's unfortunate but that's part of everyone who works in customer service's jobs. I never tip someone who is unfriendly. I always tip someone who smiles, says hello, please and thank you. I don't even mind if they mess up my order, as long as they apologize.
